Sports Car Market (SCM) 1-6 Scale Condition Rating System

1

1-
National concours standard. Perfect.

Near 1 condition.

2+

2
Exceptionally high quality 2 condition.

Very good, club concours, some small flaws.
Interpretation: The small flaws noted here could be items that keep a vehicle from winning club concours events, such as inaccurate aftermarket modifications or incorrect use of materials. Slight patina to the paint and interior is acceptable but needs to be of high quality work throughout.

2-
Near 2 condition.

3+

3
Exceptionally high quality 3 condition.

Average daily driver in decent condition.
Interpretation: Many vehicles will fall into this category, especially those 15 to 20 years of age and older. This vehicle looks good upon a reasonably close inspection and is mechanically sound. It has likely been well cared for by previous owners and was probably in somewhat regular use as opposed to spending its life as a garage queen. This vehicle should provide reliable service and years of enjoyment.

3-
Near 3 condition.

4+

4
Exceptionally high quality 4 condition.

Still a driver but with some apparent flaws.
Interpretation: A vehicle that has been slightly less cared for than a 3 condition vehicle but one that should still provide reliable service and enjoyment. May have evidence of paint and body repair that is acceptable but that was done at a “consumer” level and not the “restorer” level. If the right model (and at the right price) this may be a good candidate for a restoration or a good daily driver at a budget.

4-
Near 4 condition.

5+

5
Exceptionally high quality 5 condition.

A nasty beast that runs but has many problems.
Interpretation: This is a vehicle that gets you into the car of your dreams at a low budget but may be best driven at night and parked near a service center.

5-
Near 5 condition.

6
Good only for parts.
Interpretation: ‘Nuff said.
